My research interests are in the history of political thought and political theory. I am particularly interested in the history of the idea of toleration and contemporary issues in toleration. My research focuses on exploring the political thought of the seventeenth century thinker John Locke and its modern relevance. My research also extends to other areas of Locke's thought which bear on his political thought.
I am known to many by my Japanese name 'Kei' (pronounced 'Kay') outside my hometown, but I publish under my Canadian name 'J.K.' (John Kay) Numao.
