This paper introduces ideas to use Mixed Reality (MR) technologies in craftsman's work of architecture.One of the backgrounds of this study is emerging technology of Mixed Reality becoming much easier to use recently with new devices such as Microsoft Hololens. Among many possible applications of this technique in architectural work, we particularly choose Japanese traditional timber joinery 'Kumiki' as a model case of complicated architectural work.We found that people need a certain sense of 3D recognition and knowledge about right order of assemble. That is what we can suggest for users with our MR guidance system named 'Holonavi' which can show appropriate information in 3D vision in real time. The aim of our research is to find useful knowledge about effective ways and sufficient information to guide users. As a conclusion, we found that guidance with MR technology gives users to have a recognition more effectively for take of right action when they are moving their viewpoint around the object and when they located in the range of reachable distance to the objects. It is the first achievement for use of 'Holonavi' to let people feel more fun to craft something by their hands aided by computer.

This paper studies the possibility of applying the recognition and segmentation of architectural components by deep learning to assist automatic BIM modeling. The research has two parts: the first one is dataset preparing, that images with the labeled architectural components from an original CAD drawing are made for the network training, and second is training and testing, that a mature network which has been trained in hundreds of labeled images is used to make predictions. The utilization of the current study results is discussed and the optimization method as well.

Architecture tectonics with specific geometry is embraced as a major technique to achieve a physical relationship between engineering and social rationality in terms of the use of space and resources. Nowadays, thanks to parametric geometry, new architectural technologies are expected to evolve with digital innovation. Thus, we are in the age of searching for comprehensive changes in architectural tectonics, including materials and processes. We have started to think that some reflections of modern architecture with industrial technology give an opportunity to explore the tectonics in digital tern. Historically, the concept of “Metabolism” was presented in 1960 to integrate the culture of Japanese traditional architecture with modernism and this concept may be revived with digital construction technology. The concept has an impact on the modularity, adaptability, compatibility, and transformability of architectural elements. Presenting our experimental project with this idea, this paper discusses the paradigm shift of architectural design and technology from modern construction based on mass production to digital construction based on smart production.

The research of developing and improving pedestrian simulation model is essential in the process of analysing, evaluating and generating the architectural spaces that can not only satisfy circulation design condition but also promote sales by attracting customers. In terms of programming the simulation for commercial environment, current study attempts to use shortest-path algorithm generally and these results suggested that the model can reproduce approximate real trajectory within given environment. However, these studies also mentioned about necessity of considering shopper internal state and visual field. In this paper, in order to further incorporate the dynamic internal state (memory) into simulation model, we propose using iterative algorithm based on recurrent neural network (RNN) framework which allow it to exhibit temporal dynamic behaviour for a time sequence. Finally, we demonstrate the effectiveness of these algorithms we introduce and assess the combination of multiple algorithms and calibration of probability by comparing with trajectories of the experiment.

This paper presents a visibility analysis for 3D urban environments and its possible applications for urban design. This multi-view visibility analysis tool was generated by 3D isovist in Grasshopper, Rhino. The advantage of this analysis tool is that it can be compared within the measurement area. In addition, setting a visual object different from the existing isovist. The visual object is a landmark of a city space, such as landscape or object. First, the application experimented on the relevance between the calculation time and precision by this analysis tool. Based on the results of this experiment, it applied it to an actual part of an urban space. The multi-view visibility includes confirming the possibility of a comprehensive evaluation on the urban redevelopment and change of the view caused by the building layout plan - by numerical analysis showing the visual characteristics of the area while using 3D isovist theory. The practically applied area is Shinkiba, which is a part of Tokyo’s landfill site; and while using the calculated data, multi-view visibility of each plan in the simulation of the visibility map is compared and evaluated.
